Zann Applauds Provincial Recreation Funding for Truro

(Truro, NS) – NDP MLA Lenore Zann is happy that the Town of Truro and the Truro Curling Club will receive a combined $83,000 from the Department of Health Promotion and Protection. Earlier today it was announced that the Town of Truro will receive $31,000 to develop the Douglas Street Recreation Centre and the Truro Curling Club will get $52,000 to upgrade its facility.
“I want to thank Minister MacDonald for making this sound investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said Zann. "With the lifestyle and demands of society today we all need to make an effort to become more physically active, and I have no doubt that this funding will help us do that."
"This funding will help our existing curling club with upgrades which are much needed - especially since interest in curling has grown thanks to the recent attention the sport has received from both the Olympics and the success of Team Pinkney, our very own World Champions. I have no doubt that this funding will make life better for the people of Truro - especially for our seniors, families, and children, and I am very grateful."
The funding was announced as part of the province’s Recreation Facility Development Program. The program assists community groups, municipalities and other not-for-profit organizations develop facilities to increase public participation in sport and physical recreation.
