Skabar Welcomes Provincial Recreation Funding for Amherst

(Amherst, NS) – NDP MLA Brian Skabar is applauding a combined $121,500 in provincial funding from the Department of Health Promotion and Protection for the Town of Amherst and the Amherst Curling Club.
Earlier today it was announced that the Town of Amherst will receive $75,000 to build a skateboard park and another $25,000 to further develop Dickey Park. The Amherst Curling club will also receive $21,500 to improve its facility.
“Investing in parks and infrastructure gives people of all ages a greater opportunity to get off their couch and go outside to exercise,” said Skabar. “It’s a sound investment in the health and well-being of the people of Amherst that will help make life better for families.”
The funding was announced as part of the province’s Recreation Facility Development Program. The program assists community groups, municipalities and other not-for-profit organizations develop facilities to increase public participation in sport and physical recreation.
